Re-scripting Korca‘s theatre: The theatre in Korca was initially a present from Moscow prior to Albanian Communism‘s falling out with Post-Stalinist Russia.Its Soviet classicism was then stripped back to a sort of Balkan Art déco.
It is a rehabilitation project for the public space for the San Pablo Xalpa Housing Unit in Azcapotzalco. The unit was divided by walls, fences and barriers that the inhabitants had built themselves over time and that did not allow a free use of the public space available.The main objective was to transform a “sectored housing unit” into a “Common-Unity”, designing with the community and not only for the community based on the implementation of different actions. The strategy of the project was to work with the barriers created by the inhabitants: permeate them, democratise them and re-signify them to generate UNITY in the neighbourhood.
Part of a larger master plan that envisions a new, greener future for the City of New Orleans and its riverfront, Crescent Park was designed to reconnect people with the river and transform the remnants of the city’s industrial and maritime past into a verdant, accessible, community asset.
‘Haat Beat’ was the starting point to this design competition entry in 2005. Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation had invited entries for a Dilli Haat in Janakpuri – a massive site with a large residential audience, in a part of Delhi that had very few places to go out to. DTTDC has promoted music all across Delhi with its concerts and other initiatives. The idea was to give them a home for playful music and give these homes a place to play with music. This was the underlying layer that bonded the overall program of formal and informal shops to sell crafts and celebrate culture; to inject a new life into this part of Delhi and be its rhythmic ‘haat beat’.
Hangzhou Central Plaza is located in Hangzhou new East Station North Square, JHD Ar-chitects was trying to build it into a modern and traditional sale office which different from the traditional impression of Hang Zhou style. According to the site conditions, the front yard, the main building and the parking lots of the building are connected in one line lay-out, create connection with the grand size of Hang Zhou East Station platform, the main building is backed up a little to forming a urban public plaza, aim at sharing resources.

FROM THREAT TO COMMUNITY ASSET: Reviving a country town’s heart and linking it to the river Work has now completed on the Maitland Riverlink, a public project that will crystallise new value for the regional centre Maitland, both in terms of its identity and its assets. The project will support a revitalisation of the central business precinct, extending it beyond the main street to the river.
Portsoken Pavilion is the centrepiece structure in a new landscaped public square commissioned by the City of London Corporation that has replaced a former gyratory and subways. The small building is a part of a larger civic aim to provide space for events and leisure, improve wellbeing and provide natural surveillance.The new ‘Aldgate Square’ is one of the largest new public spaces in London’s Square Mile and improves the connection for the two distinctive listed heritage buildings that sit either side of the square: the St Botolph without Aldgate church and Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School.Make Architects was briefed to create a new pavilion to sit proudly in this new landscape. It was to have an aesthetic relationship with their RIBA Award-winning City of London Information Centre adjacent to St Paul’s Cathedral, which was also commissioned by the client.
In 1933, the first modern steel reinforced concrete station in Taiwan – the Chia-yi Railway Station – was completed. There was no station square at that time. With the development of transport and the increasing needs of transit, a square gradually took shape after 1950, becoming the starting point of the space for the small town. Over the past 50 years, the square underwent several times of adjustments; inside of the square gets congested by various types of vehicles, becoming chaotic and lacking a sense of modern city.
This project represents a fragment from the competition winning proposal for the Skanderbeg Square in Skopje, Macedonia. Phase 1 and 2 are completed and phase 3 is in process.
