Community Node : Third Place Cities are connected to various functions such as the square, architecture, and space through diverse paths. Social relationships are generated by the nodes between these paths and elements (e.g., square, architecture, and space). Multi-layered social spaces trigger diverse new relationships from the users who utilize community facilities.
Public Buildings
Some people asked me why GOM would make out an elliptical building which seldom appeared in our designing history. It was because the landscape design company insisted to make the site into an oval as a way to intervene in existed architecture and landscape.
We believe that the process of transformation and development of cities like São Paulo is slowly adapting to the changes in the customs and way of life of the societies that build them. The new unit of SESC – a complex set of recreational facilities and services – that will occupy the headquarters building of the old Mesbla, found on the corner of 24 de Maio Street and Dom José de Barros Street, downtown São Paulo, is an exemplary problem of transformation in the built urban heritage.
This project is framed within a wider masterplan for the Fort V site, aiming to strengthen the current function of public park. The ‘bioclass’ is known to locals, but needs a new infrastructure. It is conceived as a new reception centre for education of nature and ecology for the region.
The village of Pingtian is situated on a mountain ridge and consists mostly of rammed earth structures with traditional wood construction on the inside. The houses are grouped organically along the topography and can be accessed on foot by means of stairs and very narrow alleys.
Located on the edge of the Dee Why town centre, the new PCYC Community Centre provides an entertainment hub for the peninsula’s youngest residents. It is conceived as a cloud like form settling on a pedestal that emerges from the ground. The counterpoint achieved by these two form types express in built form the dual program of community centre over the car park. The roof form is cloud like in nature as it is a free form object defined by the internal program (functional spatial requirements) and the external constrains (solar access to neighbouring apartments). It also possesses the quality of a gradual revealing of the internal content as the roof form drops and dissipates over the smaller spaces.
At the heart of the urban renewal of the Orgeval district in Reims, that is a worn-down sixties housing estate area with its problematics, the building opens up on a new large plaza and three different streets, while being largely contiguous to a housing and service block.
The city has grown so fast that it can not be measured. Then what about the quality of our lives? Dehumanization of human beings, poor generosity, and busy daily lives. Seoul is perhaps the most widespread place to be in such matters. Achromatic people moving without composure and hectic daily routines are not allowed except for coming and going to the same place.
The site is located at the junction of the old and new villages, north of Dongziguan affordable housing in Fuyang. The project, as a public venue for villagers’ activities, takes the local regional culture as its unique background, and strives to create a “Vitality Source” for villagers to jointly build and share.
Economical, flexible and rudimentary were the design aspirations for the Curra Community Hall, conceived as a simple and honest construction with robust, natural and cost effective materials, appropriate to its place in regional Queensland.
